Reclaiming Discovery: How Thoughtful AI Can Give Researchers Back Their Time
Elsevier's report, "Researcher of the Future - a Confidence in Research," highlights a widening gap between the promise of AI and the support researchers receive to use it responsibly. While enthusiasm for AI continues to grow, only 32% of researchers believe their institutions provide strong AI governance, and just 27% feel adequately trained. At the same time, less than half report having enough time to conduct meaningful research. Thoughtful, well-supported AI adoption can help address these challenges by easing routine burdens and creating space for more in-depth inquiry. With clear training, ethical guidance, and institutional alignment, AI has the potential to enhance—not hinder—the integrity and impact of scholarly work, enabling researchers to reclaim valuable time for discovery.
