AI in Higher Education—Beyond Hype and Handouts
Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping higher education, but the real debate is whether it serves as a scaffold for learning or simply a shortcut. While many AI tools risk trivializing intellectual effort by providing ready-made answers, Wiley's recent enhancements to its zyBooks STEM courseware stand out for promoting guidance over dependence. By offering hints, monitoring engagement, and flagging misuse, the initiative underscores that AI can uphold academic integrity rather than undermine it. Still, the broader scholarly publishing ecosystem faces a critical choice: prioritize convenience or preserve rigor. The future of AI in education must lie in tools that reinforce critical thinking and transformative learning—not those that erode them. Read More

Publishing Under Pressure: The AI Roadmap Leaders Can't Afford To Delay
Scientific and scholarly publishing is straining under the weight of rising submissions, stricter compliance mandates, and growing author expectations—all while workflows remain anchored in outdated, fragmented systems. Adding staff or outsourcing tasks may ease pressure temporarily, but these fixes don't address structural inefficiencies. What the industry needs now is not incremental optimization but a reengineering of publishing operations. Domain-trained AI offers that path forward: augmenting editorial judgment, embedding compliance by design, and enabling true scalability. The real choice for publishers is clear: keep patching old processes—or embrace AI-driven reinvention to build a resilient, future-ready model. Read More
