A wide range of dubious activities, misconduct, and even fraud are on the rise. Citation and data manipulation, conflicts of interest, plagiarism, retractions and corrections, questionable authorship, fraudulent peer review, paper mills, and more have all contributed to the pervasiveness of this problem. Much effort has been invested in recent years to increase global awareness of research integrity and develop improvements in this area to aid in the worldwide spread of trustworthy and ethically sound information.
