Elsevier launches SoftwareX online journal

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the launch of a new concept journal, SoftwareX. The online-only journal provides a dedicated publishing home for all software which fundamentally impacts the research process, but traditionally would not be acknowledged or reported on systematically. SoftwareX is an open access journal that publishes peer-reviewed open source software.

Syrian Books and Journals return to US

A coalition of leading publisher and author associations has commended the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the Treasury Department for an amendment to the Syrian Sanctions Regulations permitting the publishing and marketing of manuscripts, books, journals, and newspapers from the war-torn nation under a general license. The Association of American University Presses (AAUP), the Association of American Publishers Professional and Scholarly Publishers division (AAP/PSP), and PEN American Center wrote a joint letter to OFAC requesting that it revise the trade regulations that effectively prohibited American publishers from publishing and marketing books and articles by Syrian authors and scholars in January 2015.

ProQuest ebrary adds new titles for Subscription, Purchase, and DDA in March and April

Ebrary added over 2,900 titles for Purchase in March. New titles came from publishers like Oxford University Press, ABC-CLIO, and Springer Publishing Group. Subjects range from mathematics to education to literature and reference.

OCLC, the non-profit computer library service and research organisation, has announced that John Cabot University, an American university located in the heart of Rome, is the first in Italy to select OCLC WorldShare Management Services as its library management system. WorldShare Management Services (WMS) provide cloud-based library management and discovery applications in an integrated suite.

University of the Sunshine Coast selects Ex Libris cloud solutions

Library automation services provider Ex Libris Group, has announced that the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) in Australia has selected the Ex Libris Alma next-generation resource management solution and the Primo discovery and delivery solution. Alma and Primo will replace a number of systems, including the Virtua integrated library system and the EBSCO discovery service.
