Wellcome Trust launches charity fund to support open access research publications

Six medical research charities recently launched the Charity Open Access Fund (COAF) to cover open access, article-processing charges. The Charity Open Access Fund (COAF) is a partnership between Arthritis Research UK, Breast Cancer Campaign, the British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK, Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and the Wellcome Trust to enable free and unrestricted access to the published outputs of the research we support.

LIBER calls on European Commission to take measures towards enabling Open Science

On the eve of the closing of the European Consultation on Science 2.0, LIBER issued a statement both welcoming the Consultation as a step towards strengthening the competitiveness of European research, and calling on the European Commission to take measures towards enabling Open Science. Commenting on the position statement, LIBER President, Kristiina Hormia-Poutanen called on all LIBER libraries to play their part in enabling Open Science.

Doctoral Dissertations Accepted by American Universities now available digitally as American Doctoral Dissertations 1933-1955™ via EBSCO

The print index, Doctoral Dissertations Accepted by American Universities (DDAAU), is now available digitally as American Doctoral Dissertations 1933-1955TM. EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) and the Congregational Library & Archives in Boston worked together to digitize the content and build the free database from the volumes originally published by the H.W. Wilson Company. This effort was made possible through a donation from the H.W. Wilson Foundation.

BioMed Central and the University of Michigan in deal to publish open access journal Clinical Diabetes and Endocrinology

Open access publisher BioMed Central and the University of Michigan have announced an agreement to publish a new open access journal, Clinical Diabetes and Endocrinology, which is now open for submissions and will begin publishing in the first quarter of 2015. The journal is led by Editor-in-Chief, Meng H. Tan, Professor, Internal Medicine, in the Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology, and Diabetes, at the University of Michigan.

SAGE launches open access journal PLEURA to advance knowledge of pleural diseases

Academic publisher SAGE has announced the launch of PLEURA, an open access journal publishing research on recent advances in pleural diseases. The journal will be published as the official journal of the International Society of Pleural Diseases. PLEURA will promote a multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and management of pleural diseases.

Austin Community College and McGraw-Hill Education unveil world's largest adaptive

McGraw-Hill Education and Austin Community College unveiled the world's largest "math emporium," a 600-seat lab that has the capacity to serve half of the district's over 41,000 credit students in developmental math at the 2014 annual EDUCAUSE conference. Known as the ACCelerator, the emporium is contained within a state-of-the art learning center built on the former site of Austin's Highland Mall. The ACCelerator is powered by McGraw-Hill Education's adaptive math program, ALEKS®.
