Springer Nature announces two new ORCID initiatives

Springer Nature has announced two new initiatives in support of ORCID, which gives researchers a unique, personal, persistent identifier (an iD) that distinguishes them from every other researcher. ORCID also enables organisations to link researchers' affiliations and works – including their publications - to their iD, ensuring they receive proper credit for their work. The first initiative is a trial that will mandate ORCID iDs for corresponding authors publishing in 46 journals from across the whole of Springer Nature, including Nature Research, Springer and BioMed Central.

Clarivate Analytics releases Thomson IP Manager 4.5

Clarivate Analytics, the source of intelligent information for businesses and professionals, has announced its next release of Thomson IP Manager, featuring Microsoft Outlook integration; SAML 2.0-based single sign-on and USPTO PAIR. These features are available on both Enterprise and Cloud editions of Thomson IP Manager.

Elsevier updates comprehensive text on sustainable farming systems

Elsevier, the information analytics company specialising in science and health, has announced the publication of Agricultural Systems: Agroecology and Rural Innovation for Development, Second Edition, edited by Sieglinde Snapp and Barry Pound. It presents an overview of the emerging area of agroecology applications transforming farming systems and supporting rural innovation, with particular emphasis on how research can be harnessed for sustainable agriculture. Elsevier also announced the publication of nine additional agriculture and agronomy books.

CERN and the American Physical Society sign agreement for SCOAP3

The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and the American Physical Society (APS) have signed an agreement for SCOAP3 – the Sponsoring Consortium for Open Access Publishing in Particle Physics. Under this agreement, high-energy physics articles published in three leading journals of the APS will be open access from January 2018.

New OCLC Research report offers framework for developing culture of collaboration between archivists and IT professionals

Global library cooperative OCLC has released Demystifying IT: A Framework for Shared Understanding between Archivists and IT Professionals, a follow-on report in the popular Demystifying Born Digital series designed to help archivists achieve a better understanding of how information technology professionals work so that they can be effective collaborators. The report describes types of IT providers and the services they typically offer, offers insights on the software development process, provides guidance toward building partnerships and emphasises the centrality of resource constraints.

Altmetric attention data now available in Envision Pharma Group's LibraryTM scientific content management software

Envision Pharma Group ('Envision') has announced that Library – Envision's searchable content management system for Medical Affairs materials, including publications and multimedia – will now feature attention data provided by data science company Altmetric. Fully integrated into the publication details held within Library, Altmetric badges and associated attention scores provide constantly updated, at-a-glance indicators of the engagement relating to published articles.

Cochrane Taiwan announces appointment of new Director

Cochrane Taiwan has announced that the appointment of Chiehfeng (Cliff) Chen as its new Director, effective February 2017. Cochrane Taiwan's work in supporting and promoting evidence-based healthcare goes back to 2003, and Cliff has been involved with the team's activities for 11 years. Director Ken Kuo will be stepping down from managing day-to-day operations but will continue to provide advisory support and contributions to the team's work.

BioMed Central signs San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment

Open access publisher BioMed Central has become a signatory of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), the commitment to move away from a single measure of a journal's impact (Impact Factor) to the provision of a wider set of metrics and measurements. BioMed Central has been compliant with the majority of DORA recommendations for some time, and a commitment to reducing emphasis on Impact Factor is the final step in enacting DORA practices in research assessment.

Springer Nature authors can now submit more of their research outputs via new data submission portal powered by Figshare

Figshare, an online digital repository for academic research, has launched a new tool that enables authors to share their research outputs more efficiently during the publishing process. Springer Nature is the first publisher to pilot this new data submission portal and have worked closely with Figshare to build a customised service to support open research. The tool will reduce the amount of information authors must complete to share data supporting their publications.

CSHL collaborates with Chan Zuckerberg Initiative to boost sharing of scientific research

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) has announced a new collaboration with the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) that will help accelerate the understanding of life science for the benefit of human health and disease. New funding from CZI will support the development and expansion of CSHL's bioRxiv preprint service, a free platform that enables life science researchers to quickly and easily share drafts of papers before they are published in peer-reviewed research journals.

RSB and the Biochemical Society announce inaugural issue of new journal deal with biology's hot topics

The inaugural issue of Emerging Topics in Life Science, a new journal jointly owned by the Royal Society of Biology and the Biochemical Society, has been published.
