SAGE acquires Pion Limited, strengthens geography and psychology portfolio

Academic publisher SAGE has announced the purchase of Pion Limited, independent publisher of high quality academic journals founded by Adam Gelbtuch and John Ashby in 1959. The sale was announced jointly by Chairman of Pion, David Cohen and Stephen Barr, President SAGE International.

Taylor & Francis adds Altmetric data to Taylor & Francis Online and Cogent OA

Taylor & Francis Group has announced the addition of Altmetric data to Taylor & Francis Online and Cogent OA, enhancing the article metrics currently available on both journal platforms. Altmetric data, which will be added to all journal articles published since January 2012, will offer users a more complete picture of how people are engaging with research articles from Taylor & Francis Group, whether via traditional or social media, blogs or online reference managers.

National Library of the Netherlands and Portico partnership at the forefront of digital preservation and international collaboration

The National Library of the Netherlands (KB) and Portico have announced a new partnership that will support the preservation of e-journals through the KB's International e-Depot program and take advantage of Portico's extensive preservation infrastructure and expertise. Portico first began offering e-journal preservation support to national libraries through its work with the British Library to help it meet UK legal deposit regulations in 2013.

PeerJ Computer Science publishes first peer-reviewed articles

Open access publisher PeerJ has announced the publication of its first peer-reviewed articles in PeerJ Computer Science, a new cross-disciplinary open access journal publishing articles across all fields of computer science. PeerJ Computer Science first started accepting preprints and submissions for peer-reviewed articles in February this year, and the journal publishes its first articles on May 27th.

The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) has launched a new interactive mapping service to help universities and colleges collaborate with business. The six maps – which chart the size, industry sector and characteristics of small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in England – will allow organisations to search for start-ups in their local area and identify companies that have a high synergy with their own research, to create partnerships that are mutually beneficial.

ARL's Google Analytics Workshop scheduled for June 25

ARL's full-day, in-person workshop on Google Analytics to be held in San Francisco on June 25, 2015, continues to be open for registration. The workshop is offered by the ARL Statistics and Measurement Program in partnership with LunaMetrics, a Google Analytics Certified Partner. Google Analytics is a tool that can help identify where website visitors are coming from and how they interact with web pages. Libraries can use this knowledge to improve their websites and overall user experience.

Open Access books slowly on the rise, says new PCG study

Publishers and libraries are increasingly experimenting with Open Access (OA) books, according to a new survey by industry advisors, Publishers Communication Group (PCG). Books published under the so-called 'author-pays,' Gold Open Access model with no paywall for readers are expected to slowly grow in importance, with funding derived from a variety of sources including library budgets, the study reported.

Aries Systems partners with Overleaf to allow authors to submit manuscripts directly to thousands of journals

Aries Systems, a solutions provider for scholarly publishers, partners with Overleaf, an online LaTeX and Rich Text collaborative writing and publishing tool. This new agreement between Aries Systems and Overleaf will allow authors to directly submit manuscripts created in the Overleaf platform to the thousands of scholarly journals that use Editorial Manager Ingest Service for online submission and peer review.
